Now, I don’t do many compilations on vinyl, but I do like The Flaming Lips, but sad to say, don’t really know their albums. So when I saw this, I picked it up so I’d have something by them.

Apparently sources from original master tapes, I do say it sounds fantastic! No surface noise and very clear.

The CD release of this has 3 discs. However the vinyl is just a single platter with a very reduced list of just 11 songs. Still, it’s enough for my fix (for now).

We start off side 1 with the ‘classics” of Do You Realize?? and Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Pt.1. Things don’t get too weird until we reach ‘She Don’t Use Jelly’ at the end of side 1 – I only say that as the lyrics really are quite odd :p

Side 2 is a bit more experimental and strange compared to side 1.

‘The W.A.N.D’ actually makes you think there is a huge scratch on the record if you aren’t paying attention, but it’s, of course, just the intro to the song.

Things ‘seem’ to get a bit more conventional with The Castle, but it’s still strange a fantastic in The Flaming Lips way – he’s still singing about mushrooms and bumblebees.

We finish up with The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song. It’s quite a nice way to finish off the compilation with its throwback to the 60s style and composition.
