Saw a few used copies in a local (Singapore) record store not long ago. Went back to see if available, and no, of course they had gone. Instead, they actually had this German pressing new. Did a quick check on Discogs and Hoffman forums and was met with positivity!

The cover always fascinated me. Used to think it was from a movie with all the stars in the photo.

Lovely sounding pressing! Helps that the album itself is good.

Starts off extremely strong with ‘Band on the Run’, followed by ‘Jet’. If you don’t k now these songs, go listen somehow, now. Two of my favorite Paul McCartney non-Beatles songs.

‘Bluebird’ is lovely and ‘Mrs Vanderbilt’ is great fun!

Finishing off Side A is ‘Let Me Roll It’, a song, at first glance, I would have though was by John Lennon. Maybe Paul was trying to say something here…?

I really like the first song on Side B – Mamunia. I don’t know why though. It’s quite strange and folksy and has a bit of African influence.

‘No Words’ is kind of a Beatles ballad. It does kick up a gear, but marred slightly with Macca going a little too high pitched at one point.

‘Picasso’s Last Words’ is a strange one. Passes half-way through into a slowed down ‘Jet’ before flowing back into the drinking song we started off with. You also get a bit of ‘Hey ho’ from ‘Mrs Vanderbilt’ thrown in at the end.

I do like the final song on the album, ‘Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five’. The piano kicking in is strangely comforting. Strange vocals but they work!

The little snippets of other songs on the album here and there reminds me a little of Sgt Peppers.

I don’t know about other pressings, but this comes with a photo montage poster inside. Won’t be going up on my wall anytime soon, but it’s nice to see stuff like this.
